Genre And Sub Genre Research

Genre  - A category of artistic composition, as in music or literature, characterized by similarities in form, style, or subject matter.

Sub Genre  - a category that is a subdivision of a larger genre

Research Task 1:

"The Others"

Genre? Thriller, Mystery, Horror, Period Piece, Drama,Suspense, Supernatural.

Why? Adults mainly

Target Audience? Because the Posters mainly include a female looking afraid.

"Fair Game"

Genre? Biography, Action, Film Adaption, Thriller, Political Drama and Drama.

Why? portrayed as very mysterious & political as investigators are shown.

"Tower Heist"

Genre? Action, Comedy and Action Fiction.

Why? Young people mainly

Target Audience? Gang shown which may relate to young people.

"In Time"

Genre?  Horror

Why is it Horror? Because the look and facial expression on the photographed womans face says to me that she is shocked from something that is frightening, also the writing is in a freaky font giving some sort of supernatural feel to it

Target Audience? I think the target audience is a young one such as teenagers.

"Unfaithfull"

Genre?  Erotic drama film

What signifies this? The poster represents love through the man and woman but the fact that she is pictured sleeping below him shows that they have some sort of connection or love.

Target Audience? The target audience looks like a cult audience of older age however i can picture middle aged married people watching this as they can relate.

"In the Line of Fire"

Genre? American thriller film

Why? I can just about see an american flag in the poster and i see 3 men one with a gun this signifies that there is action involved therefore suspense creating thrill amongst audiences

Target Audience? I think young adults would enjoy this thriller

  5. gruelling scenes of violence

Research Task 3:

Deja Vu -

Sub genre:

Action Thriller

How can you tell through characters:

The charectars facial expressions are highy happy and they have smiles on their faces possibly suggesting maybe they are too happy also the sound of the horn contrasts to their emotions and possibly this will ruin their day. Everyone is enjoying themselves and playing not a single person frowning, they are all engaged in doin something but you can sense through the suspense something will happen.

How camera, Mes ,editing and sound show this:

Camera - Long shots creates a wider view picturing a larger group of people creating a attraction of interest from the audience. The tracking camera also adds to the suspense as the audience start to ask where are they going and why.

M.E.S - Men wearing their Royal Navy/ Marines uniform cheering making and creating a sense of happiness and also glory.

Sound - Tyres screeching creates suspense as well as the ambigous soundtrack that plays during the begining onwards, also i think the cheering of the men who board the bus creates a sense that something is going to happen. Finnally the sound of the loud horn suddenly changes the attidute of the audience as it contrasts highklyto the happy cheers of the people being filmed.

Editing - The credits are displayed in a certain way to attract interest from audience and engage as if they are participating themselves.

Momento -

Sub genre:

Psychological Thriller

How can you tell through characters:

The characters are pictured as edgy and nearly all of the shots are close ups so we get a good idea of the characters.

How camera, Mes ,editing and sound show this:

Camera - Constant close up shots try to focus into the characters and think about what they are thinking thus suggesting it is a psychological thriller.

M.E.S - Opening scene of man holding picture suggests that he is going over some hurtful or happy memories again bringing psychology into the equation, Furthermore

Sound - The deep soundtrack plays with the audiences mind and you can immediately tell this film will be very clever in terms of certain aspects in it.

Editing - The blue writing in the credits highly contrasts the black background, it also changes colours suggesting change is highly occurant in this movie,
