Sub-Genre: Thriller

This is a thriller as we can clearly identify when there are scenes with great suspense building such as when both the father and mother are locked in an abandoned warehouse whom are dependant on their female daughter to help them escape, this whole scene is full of tention, this helps us identify that this movie is a thriller genred movie.

How the four micro-elements have contributed into making the movie a successful Thriller:

Camera- There have been close ups and extreme close ups on the guns, and the shooting in order to help clarify that it is a thriller.

Sound- There have been many suspense scenes and a Non-Diagetic sounds such as the soundtrack in the background helping to build up the scene to its climax.

Mise En Scene- Props such as Guns, Grenades and settings have contributed into making the film a thriller and to portray it correctly as one.

Editing- There have been some slow scenes where the shots are slow in order to help rise the tempo and help the audience into thinking what will happen next building suspense.

You can identify that this is a thriller as it has numerous scenes where the audience are worried or anxious, there are also many scenes involving a huge build up and most scenes are reached to its climax due to the things such as the micro-elements.

How the micro-elements have contributed into making the movie a successful thriller:

Camera- There have been many close up of the piranhas coming close to the humans which creates a lot of tension and keeps the audience thinking and alert.

Sound- The noise of the piranhas may seem scary to many people which would help distinguish the difference and what the source for the thriller is.

Mise En Scene- The outfit of the people who are at the swimming pools and beaches are all mainly in their trunks or bikinis, this is leaving the people exposed to the piranhas which cause the audience mentally to be afraid and this helps build tension.

Editing- There are many fast cut scenes which build tension as there is many scenes when the piranhas are attacking and the editing makes us feel more involved in the movie by the quick cut scenes.
