Health and Safety & Camera Tutorial

Camera health and safety and camera tutorial.

Micky provided us with a recap of how to use the camera and tripod safely, and taught us certain new features to do with framing.

Camera Tutorial

We recapped on how to use a camera, how to set up a tripod and use the camera on a tripod in a safe manner. We also were given instructions on what we should do and what we shouldn't. For example we were reminded that we should always keep our cameras on manual focus and not auto focus, because if we did, the focus is bound to mix focus during filming.

During the tutorial, we watched and analysed several other videos so that it could influence us when shooting our own videos.

What we learnt:

Not  only did Micky go over all the various shot types with us, but he also taught us about the Thirds Rule. This is the rule when the subject within the frame takes up 2/3's of the frame and the remaining person/object takes up 1/3. We looked at various examples of the thirds rule, for example: during an over the shoulder shot (OVS) the person facing towards the camera takes up 2/3's of the camera whilst the person facing away, takes up 1/3.

We also were reminded that when recording or taking shots, we should never leave any space above the subjects' heads' as it isn't a professional look and could reduce the quality of our production.
